We all have health issues and the more so the older we get, but we can't just keep running to the doctors and expecting them to have all the answers we need to take responsibility for ourselves and eat and drink healthier and execise

I agree. I know people like this, they gorge on huge fatty meals covered in salt, drink fizzy drinks and alcohol all of the time. If you go out with them they take the mickey out of you if you eat sensibly and only have a normal sized portion.  I've got one friend who just told me she is worried because she  has been diagnosed with diabetes 2,  she talks as if this is a terrible shock to her, but I was surprised it took so long with the way she eats and abuses her body.

But you might drop dead next week of anything, maybe a plane crashes onto you, maybe a car gets you, you may as well do what you want and enjoy today and forget about all that stuff.

I get sick and tired of hearing my sister in law banging on about how hard done by she is that she cannot eat like a horse out of a trough anymore. She spent years as a human dustbin  - what does she expect? the heart, lungs, kidneys, liver etc can only stand so much. She has diabetes 2 now, she struggles to walk, all her own fault.

Shrimp - I agree up to a point. There is one point. Up until I got ill a few years ago I knew nothing about diet, nutrition and all that stuff. I had a rude awakening and made a big effort to change. Lots of people know nothing about all this, perhaps the Government should teach it at schools. It would save the NHS in the UK a bundle if people were more careful about how they take care of themselves. They spend masses on diabetes 2, and all of it could have been prevented. It's the biggest killer there are the moment.
