All of the programmes I've seen about them portray rich and famous people going to them. For one thing they are expensive. Matchmaking is an intense and difficult thing, not something that any school leaver or clueless people can turn their hand to when they are short of money!  The rich and famous need to be very cautious about who they marry, or even date, those who are unemployed, in ordinary jobs, living with parents and unknown are not going to get loads of opportunities to pick and choose anyway. Lots are keen on marrying the rich and famous so they have to sift through carefully, this can be time consuming and their time is valuable so they pay someone to do it for them.

I am not rich or famous, less than ordinary, but can see why a rich or famous person would be ultra picky and use a matchmaker. Also these are busy peeps. They rushing around and working hard and earning a lot per hour. They not have time to waste on going on loads of dates in the hope of. It work out more expensive to do that than to delegate the job to a minion. They also have to think of their safety about giving out address, phone, email, being with someone who might be a violent type etc.  Or bunny boiler women who get leery when told the date is over or refusing to marry them or whatever.
